E-Textbooks

What is a Jumpbook?

Jumpbooks are electronic textbooks (e-books) with enhanced functionality that are available in digital format.  They are sold at a lower cost than traditional textbooks since they are not printed, and are more eco-friendly.  They allow you to gain functionality because of their enhanced features.  For instance, you can search the entire text for a word or phrase, add comments, create your own bookmarks, and print on demand.

What do I need in order to use my e-book?

  •    A computer with the following minimum system requirements

o       Intel Pentium processor or PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor

o       Windows 2000 -> XP, or Mac OS X 10.3 or greater

o       256 MB of RAM (512MB recommended)

o       Up to 120 MB of available hard-disk space

o       1024x768 screen resolution or larger

  • High-speed Internet connection.

  • Free software to read your e-book. Either Adobe Reader 7.0 or VitalSource Bookshelf

  • An account on Jumpbooks.com

  • The receipt number and access code on your receipt

How do I get an e-book?

If you are shopping in one of NCC's bookstores, the book's shelf tag will indicate whether or not the book is available in e-format and the cost.  If an e-book is available for your course, a card will be located next to the shelf tag.  Take the card up to the register to pay for your e-book and your individual access code and download instructions will be printed on your receipt.  DO NOT LOSE YOUR RECEIPT! If you are shopping on our website, after you have entered your course information, an e-book option will be available to select if one is available.  Your access code and download instructions will be e-mailed to you.  Payment options include cash, credit card, check, and financial aid.

Can e-books be purchased online?

Yes.  Once you are on the bookstore website and have entered all of your course information, if an e-book is available for your course, it will appear as an option that you can click when purchasing your books.  Your individual access code and download instructions will be e-mailed to you.

How will I receive my access code?

If you purchase your e-book in one of NCC's stores, your individual access code and download instructions will be printed on your receipt. If you purchase your book through our website, your access code and download instructions will be e-mailed to you.

What if I lose my access code?

If you have not yet accessed your code, we may be able to look it up in the store.  If your code has already been accessed, there is nothing we can do. DO NOT LOSE YOUR ACCESS CODE!

Are all textbooks available in e-book format?

No.  As of now, e-books are available for approximately 80 classes.  However, we plan to expand upon the number of titles available each semester. For a complete list of offered classes, please look below.

What if I drop a class?

If you have not yet accessed your book, and you have your original receipt, you may return the "book" for a full refund within the two week return period.

Can I share my e-book with others?

Jumpbooks (e-books) are designed to be used by a single user, on one or several computers.

For how long will I have access to my e-book?

This will vary.  Some Jumpbooks do not expire. Other books will be accessible for approximately 180 days.  The exact time frame for each individual book will be indicated on the back of the Jumpbook tag in the bookstore and/or available online before purchasing the book.  For e-books with expiration dates, the time until expiration begins as soon as your book is activated.

Can I print out my e-book?

An e-book can be printed ONE time; it can also be downloaded to your computer ONE time.  If you do not download or print it, you can access your book from any computer, as long as you have your individual access code.  DO NOT DOWNLOAD TO A PUBLIC COMPUTER.

What if my computer crashes and I lose my Jumpbook (e-book)?

Jumpbooks.com recommends that you immediately make a backup copy after downloading your e-book.  Create a copy of your Jumpbook and save it to removable media such as CD, DVD, or a USB drive.  Jumpbooks.com and/or the Northampton Community College bookstore is NOT responsible for accidentally deleted or lost files.

*PLEASE NOTE* If your order consists SOLELY of E-textbook(s) select the "RESERVE" option because there is no shipping charge for E-textbook(s) only sales.
